October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month — a time to celebrate the abilities and achievements of people with Down syndrome while promoting inclusion, acceptance, and awareness.
This month offers us the opportunity to share stories, spread awareness, and highlight the importance of creating inclusive communities for individuals and families. Together we can create a world where every person with Down syndrome is valued and empowered.
We encourage you to explore and share the resources of our friends at Global Ds Foundation— including their Prenatal and Newborn Pamphlet, GLOBAL Adult Guideline, advocacy tools, and so much more — to help build understanding and connection. Take a read, and help us by spreading these resources, you help us extend awareness and create meaningful impact.
We are excited for our major gala event of the year next week – Uniquely Me 2025 presented by Ledcor Group. This year's event is going to be filled with lots of new and exciting models and entertainment to showcase our talented community members for our guests. If you have not purchased your tickets yet, there are a few seats remaining. If you are not able to attend you can still help out with supporting our online auction that is active now and also purchase a raffle ticket on our Westjet Prize package.
Planning for the future doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Our funding partner, Edmonton Community Foundation offers a comprehensive series of valuable sessions during their Wills Week Oct 6-10. Alberta estate lawyers will share their expertise in their free information sessions— from wills and personal directives to estate taxes and executor duties.

30th Anniversary - History Photobook
We are still working on a history photobook and we would love to feature your family!
Whatever your journey has been, I would like to invite you to share with us a bit about your experiences – sharing your favorite memories and your family photos – both “then” and “now”. If you have a baby/toddler photo and then a current family photo that would be great to include in our 30th Anniversary photo album project.
We are loving the snapshots we are getting into the families that have contributed so far. Please add your families history to our book. Share your memories with us!
Please share your memories and photos with us at guest@edss.ca as soon as possible.
